The school therapist provides services for students and parents and works with teachers to implement class-wide strategies or lead interventions on social issues. For individual students, areas of information assessed include but are not limited to: academic performance, relationships at school and home, social interactions, emotional state, and behaviors. Students will also have access to sessions where they can speak with the therapist/counselor for socio-emotional needs, de-escalation, and evaluation for risk. Together, the team reaches a better understanding and talks about further interventions and actions. No individual assessments or referrals occur without prior consent from the parents unless it is identified as an emergency. The counselor must follow the emergency procedure as determined by the school.

- RESPONSIBILITIES
- Individual Student Support:
- Observe, assess, and support individual students as necessary i
- Develop a plan for implementing strategies and assistance for students
- Maintain records of observations, assessments, and meetings with students to record progress and development
- Remain updated on the latest assessments and findings the field
- Meet with students who self-identify as needing guidance or socioemotional resources.
- Parent Support:
- Meet with parents if there are significant concerns about their child(ren)’s socio-emotional wellbeing, and it is determined a referral is needed.
- Communication:
- Communicate with parents, teachers, and appropriate division principals regularly regarding the progress of the student
- Communicate with Dean of Faculty and Inclusion weekly to update about progress and caseload
- Teacher Support:
- Provide suggestions for accommodation and use of strategies and tools within the classroom
- Act as a resource for social skills instruction and socio-emotional matters
- Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work, or related behavioral science field required.
- Clinical licensure as an LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, or psychologist in California is highly preferred (unlicensed professionals considered only with relevant experience, training, education, and fit).
- At least one year of previous experience working with adolescents and young adults ages 10-18 and their families as a mental health clinician or other clinical roles specializing in psychotherapeutic work with young children and their families.
